A Brief History of Grace Episcopal Church
Grace has served the people of the city of Florence and of Northern Kentucky since 1954. Having first gathered in the basement of the Florence firehouse, Bishop William R. Moody laid the cornerstone for the church on October 23, 1955. The first service was held in the new church on Easter Sunday, 1956.
Grace Episcopal Church became a mission of the Diocese of Lexington in May of 1956 and became a parish in 1957. Since that time, the church has undergone two major renovations. The first was during the 1960s when the original rectangular building was lengthened and a new chancel, chapel, and sacristy were added, which doubled the seating capacity of the nave. In 2003, Grace again broke ground--this time, on a new parish hall. This construction nearly doubled the existing building's space and allowed for larger and more accessible amenities.
Now commemorating over 60 years of ministry to the people of Florence and of Northern Kentucky, Grace Episcopal Church continues to provide opportunities for working, learning, and praying together, participating in several feeding ministries with area schools and food pantries.
